GUAGUA 32 AL SUR DE LA ISLA DE GRAN CANARIA / GUAGUA 32 IN THE SOUTH OF GRAN CANARIA ISLAND

La capital de la isla de Gran Canaria es Las Palmas (con 381.123 habitantes), también capital de la provincia oriental (Las Palmas) y de la Comunidad Autónoma de las Islas Canarias, conjuntamente con Santa Cruz de Tenerife.


La isla dispone de una red de autobuses operada por Global desde el 17 de marzo (mi cumpleaños) de 2000, fruto de la fusión de las dos operadoras de transporte interurbano de viajeros que existían en Gran Canaria, Salcai (concesión Sur- Sureste) y Utinsa (concesión Centro – Norte).

Actualmente son 121 líneas que cubren todo el territorio insular, con más de 28 millones de viajeros al año y 320 guaguas (autobuses, en lenguaje local) en su flota, con una edad media de 6 años.

El 32 une Playa del Inglés con el Puerto de Mogán, uno de los enclaves más pintorescos y acogedores del sur grancanario. El horario de la ruta es algo errático; de lunes a viernes cada 30 minutos la mayor parte del día, los sábados, 9 servicios desde Playa del Inglés y 11 desde Puerto Mogan concentrados por la mañana. Los domingos, sin servicio. Es mejor consultar la web o las paradas para asegurarse del horario de paso.

The capital city of Gran Canaria is Las Palmas (with 381.123 inhabitants), also capital of the Eastern Province (Las Palmas) and shared capital of the Autonomous Region of the Canary Islands, together with Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The island has a bus network operated by Global since March 17th (my birthday) 2000, as a result of the merge of the two existing operators: Salcai (South-South East operations) and Utinsa (Centre and North operations).

Currently, there are 121 routes that cover the whole island, with more than 28 million passengers per year and 320 guaguas (buses, in the local lingo) in its fleet, with an average of 6 years of age for their vehicles.

The 32 links the tourist resort of Playa del Inglés with Puerto de Mogán, one of the most picturesque places in south Gran Canaria. The timetable is rather strange: from Monday to Friday, every 30 minutes, most part of the day, Saturdays, 9 services from Playa del Inglés and 11 from Puerto Mogán mainly in the morning. Sundays, no service. It is better to consult the web or the bus stops to check the timetables.

Q32 DEL EMPIRE STATE A QUEENS / Q32, FROM EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TO QUEENS

La ciudad de Nueva York es la ciudad más poblada de los Estados Unidos de América y la segunda aglomeración urbana del mundo. La ciudad se compone de cinco boroughs (distritos): Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens y Staten Island. Con más de 8,4 millones de neoyorquinos, Manhattan (1.593.200 habitantes) es el más conocido, pues ahí es donde está el centro comercial y cultural de la ciudad. Queens (2.256.576 habitantes) es el distrito más extenso y acoge dos de los tres aeropuertos del área metropolitana: La Guardia Airport y el John F. Kennedy International Airport.


El transporte público es el principal medio de transporte de los neoyorquinos. Curiosamente, se dice que Nueva York es la única ciudad del país en la que más de la mitad de los hogares no disponen de un coche.


El metro de Nueva York es el sistema de metro más grande del mundo (1.062 km) y también es el que más estaciones activas (468). Destaca además su funcionamiento durante las 24 horas del día en casi la totalidad de la red, algo que también ocurre con todos los autobuses de la ciudad (puede haber excepciones en los lugares más remotos). La empresa que gestiona el transporte público de la ciudad MTA, es un ente que controla la movilidad en los cinco distritos/estados. En cuanto a autobuses, consta de 4,578 (información de 2008), con 208 rutas locales y 36 exprés en los 5 distritos. Las líneas de autobús van identificadas por los distritos donde sirven. M para Manhattan, Q para Queens, B para Brooklyn, BX para Bronx and S para Staten Island.


La forma de pago es a través de MetroCard o aportando el importe exacto. Los El tiempo de espera varían en función de la hora del día, normalmente entre 5 y 15 minutos. Por lo general, los autobuses paran cada dos manzanas en las avenidas y cada manzana en calles transversales. Las paradas están bien señalizadas e identificadas con el número de la línea. Muchas paradas incluyen señales Guide-a-Ride, que incluyen información con el plano de la ruta y el horario. La entrada es por la puerta delantera.


El Q32 es una ruta que une la 7ª Avenida (Penn Station), en las inmediaciones del Empire State, pero que pronto cruza el río y se adentra en Queens, estableciendo su final en Jackson Heights. Según su horario, de las 1.00 a las 4.46am no hay salidas desde Penn Station y entre las 1.25 am a las 5.38 no hay desde Jackson Heights.


Como se puede ver en la foto diurna, el autobús utiliza la rampa para permitir el acceso al vehículo de pasajeros en silla de ruedas y el vehículo es híbrido eléctrico. ¿Quién dijo que los americanos no miraban por el medioambiente?


New York City is the most populated one in United States of Americas and the second biggest populated urban area in the World. It is composed of 5 boroughs (also County): Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. With over 8,4 million people in the whole state, Manhattan (1.593.200 inhabitants) is the most known as there you find the financial, commercial and cultural centre in the city. Queens (2.256.576 inhabitants) is the largest borough, where you find 2 of the 3 airports serving the metropolitan area: La Guardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.


Public transport is the main way of getting around for the people in the city. Curiously, New York is meant to be the only city in the USA where over half of the homes don't have a car.


New York Underground is the biggest in the World (1.062 km) and also the network with the most active stations (468). It has 24 hour service in nearly 100% of the network. This also happens with the buses although there may be some exceptions, as we will see later. MTA, is the company that manages transport in the five boroughs. It has 4,578 (information from 2008), with 208 locales and 36 express routes throughout the 5 counties. Services are easily recognisable, as the lines are preceded by the letter of the county they run. M for Manhattan, Q for Queens, B for Brooklyn, BX for Bronx and S for Staten Island.


You can pay by using the MetroCard or paying exact fare. Normally, buses run from every 5 to 15 minutes. Buses generally stop every other block on avenue routes and every block on cross-street routes.


Bus stops are well signalled and recognisable, showing the bus stopping. Sometimes, you can get Guide-a-Ride that includes information about the route plan and timetable. Access to the bus is done by the front door.

Q32 is a route that starts in Manhattan (7th Ave - Penn Station), near the Empire State Building, but soon crosses the bridge and runs around Queens until Jackson Heights where it has its terminal. According to its timetable, there are no services from 1.00 to 4.46am from Penn Station or from 1.25 am to 5.38 from Jackson Heights.


As you can see from the daylight picture, the bus uses the ramp for disabled passengers and it is using a hybrid electric bus... Who said America was not looking about the environment?
